Shout Volunteer Event
UK’s first 24/7 free text service for anyone in crisis
Mental Health Innovations have launched ‘Shout’, the UK’s first 24/7 free text service for anyone in crisis anytime, anywhere. Powered by a team of volunteers, who are at the heart of the service, Shout provide immediate support to anyone struggling to cope. PRP supported Shout in delivering its annual volunteer event, bringing together 600 people from across the UK who volunteer around the clock to support those in crisis.
As volunteers access their shifts from computers in their own homes, the event was an opportunity for this virtual community to see the scale of the national network they have joined. The event, hosted by Tina Daheley and attended by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, featured a number of speaker and panel discussions on mental health success stories from the previous year.
In the months since its launch, 1,500 volunteers have had 145,000 text conversations with people in crisis, exchanging a total of six million messages. The most common issues include suicide, depression, relationships, anxiety, isolation and self-harm.
